Lots of driving. Lots of time in the car. Together. Laughing. Fighting. Sleeping. Talking. Watching movies, playing games, and just enjoying the scenery. Today we drove from Carlsbad NM to Gallup NM. Yep, still in NM. I am amazed at the nothingness. So much land. No trees. No homes. No nothing. Once we hit Albuquerque the scenery began to change. The sky was SO BLUE. The storms we saw from a distance were incredible. We were told it was monsoon season. Another word we had to look up. We are learning other words like plateau and mesa. :) We have to have a little schooling going on. :) The temperature dropped about 40 degrees. Seriously. It feels incredible. We were able to grill outside and have an outdoor picnic at the campground. On the driving only days I try to find us somewhere unique to stop. We drove on Route 66 for a bit, ate at 66 Diner on the route, and stopped for a picture at the continental divide. We were not really sure what this was. Did you know that if you pour water on the ground at this spot one side will flow to that Atlantic and the other to the Pacific? The Continental Divide in the Americas is the line that divides the flow of water between the Pacific Ocean and Atlantic Ocean. Something we probably all learned in school but I somehow forgot. The Diner stop was great! We stopped for milkshakes. I really wanted the banana split that fed five people but I could only find one to share it with me so Corey and I ordered 1/3 of a split! The rest of the crew enjoyed delicious shakes. Joel got the Elvis Presley and said it was the best shake he has ever had!
